Creating keepsakes for Porgie

So, I finally did it. I made Porgie a baby blanket. Needless to say, I am extremely proud of my crocheting skills. I know what you're thinking, 'When did Christy turn into a 90 year old woman?' Apparently, it happened last month- thank you very much.

For those of you who are interested, I taught myself how to do most of the basic stitches using this book. Then, I went to a crocheting class offered at a local knitting store. Shortly after the class, I purchased this book. It has tons of adorable designs for baby afghans.

I have to admit, I really like crocheting. It is a great way to occupy myself when I have some free time. Also, I feel an incredible sense of accomplishment when I finish a project. However, the thing I am most excited about is having a beautiful, handmade keepsake for Porgie when she gets older.

On a different note, Porgie has mastered the art of crawling. Since acquiring this skill, she sleeps like this...

I felt the same way about my "no sew" fleece blanket. Although I'm know yours took a lot more work!

Cute picture! How do you get that "nighttime glow"?

The blanket looks awesome! Good job! And her sleeping position, so cute! My boys both did that as well!

oh my gosh! I want to learn so bad how to crochet!! I've tried a neck wrap, but it started to get smaller and smaller as I went. Should I have been counting?? How frustrating. Thanks for the book recomendations. The blanket looks amazing!! Bravo!

jealous! On the crocheting & the crawling!!

I've tried to crochet....I've tried knitting. I suck at both.

Will is still doing the "Zombie" crawl....he just drags himself across the room. His new favorite "toy" are the telephone wires under the end table. I'll leave the room for 5 minutes to check on dinner, or switch a load of laundry and he's under the table.

Clever you! And clever Pogie crawling!!

That sleeping position is the one Billy started once he could crawl with bum in air - very cute!

i am very impressed. i must admit, other than making Oscar himself, i haven't done much in the handmade keepsakes department. but Porgie's blanket is beautiful.

and O started sleeping exactly like that when he began crawling...i thought it was so dear. he looked like a little mushroom.

I am totally jealous. Good job! I am still pretty proud of myself for the no-sew baby pillow from fleece I made, and the fako homemade babylegs, but you have made something truly precious there. I think when I stop pumping I'll take up a hobby--I'll consider crocheting since you've made it seem so easy.

Hooray for crawling! Or not? You'll have to tell us what kinds of mischief Porgie can get into now.

Misguided Mommy,
You have to be super motivated. I made about 684 yarn knots before I finally figured out how to do a single crochet. Just keep reading the directions - eventually it will start to make sense.

S.,
My camera has a night vision feature. I am always taking pictures of Porgie in the dark.

Margo,
When I first started, my work keep getting smaller too. I realized that I was skipping stitches. It is annoying, but it might help to count stitches at first.

Cat,
Porgie loves playing with all electrical cords. Everytime I turn around, she is pulling on a damn cord. I think I am going to have to unplug everything in our freakin house.

Oh I love crocheting too. My husband loves to tease me about it - being a grandma - and calls it knitting. Then when I am knitting, he calls it crocheting. Because he literally cannot tell the difference. (HELLO. Knitting has TWO needles.)
