A first time for everything

I took the kids to the farm on Friday. We roamed around looking at the animals, playing in the barn, and exploring the old farm house. We were there for over 2 hours, and the kids were exhausted when we finally left. As soon as we walked in the door, I put both kids to bed.

After everyone was snug in bed, I went to the bathroom. While sitting on the toilet, I noticed a little bug on my leg. My first instinct was that it was a smashed spider. I thought Ugh. A spider crawled into my pant leg and is smashed on my thigh. Gross. I tried to flick it off, but it wouldn't budge. I looked more closely and saw it's legs moving. OH MY FUCKING GOD!

It was a tick. A big, fat, nasty, disgusting tick. And it was attached to my leg. I grabbed a piece of toilet paper and ripped it off of my thigh. I opened the wad of paper to look at it and the nasty bug scurried across the surface. I quickly threw it in the toilet, and then took off all of my clothes. I was convinced that they were EVERYWHERE. After checking every square inch of my body, I debated burning my clothes. MORE BUGS MIGHT BE HIDING IN THEM!

It literally took me an hour to calm down. I am a wussy. I have never had a tick on me before. Gross. Completely and totally gross. And now I convinced that I have Lyme disease. Damn stupid farm.

My little girl and I have both had ticks recently, and we haven't died, so you'll probably be okay. Just check the kids!

Oh, no! Please don't ever rip it off like that again, you have to be careful - and don't get totally grossed out - but you should always remove with tweezers, slowly and carefully, because the head can detach from it's body (it won't die immediately) and STAY IN YOUR SKIN and cause an infection!

Watch the site of the bite, and your skin in general.... if you start to see red rings anywhere on your body and especially near the site of the bite, you need to see a doctor! (we have SO MANY ticks up here, it's HORRIBLE.)

My mother found one in between her toes once. I have a friend that found on IN HER UNDERWEAR. ::shudder:: Found one on my leg two weeks ago. YUCK.

(OK re-reading that post, I sound like your mother. I am sorry. Just makes me so nervous!)

I thought you had to burn them off or something. Can't it still be in there? Not to freak you out or anything but I swear that is what I have been told.

I would have flipped out!!! That is scary. That has always been a fear of mine since we are always camping, hunting and stuff. So scary. And do be careful pulling them out like that cause their heads could be left behind!!!

we live in Tickland, USA. Well, so it seems.

I freak out too. And last night? I saw this HUGE ASS SPIDER sprint across my floor inches away from my foot. I yelled for my husband to come. And NOW!!! He killed it and said, "holy shit. that was a huge spider!" I am calling our pest control dude to come out and spray again. I didn't calm down for an hour either.

Remember I got bit by a tick. Did you keep the tick? I did test positive for lyme and it sucked. I had to take antibiotics for 30 days. Call your doc and get tested to see if the tick has DNA in you/. If you kept the tick send it in to get tested for lyme. I am so sorry. I hate ticks. And lymes is no joking matter. I have two friends who had it undetected for many years and have issues.

Also 3 out of 10 people do not have a ring around the site. Scary huh? I did not have a ring around the site. Go get checked. I hate to disagree with all your other comments but I just went through this in OCT pregnant and i thought no biggie since I had no rings but my doc and a specialist told me the real deal. 3 out of 10 show no rings..call me if you have any questions or want to bitch. This is the last thing you need.
