I am here to humor you

Porgie's 3rd birthday is fast approaching. We took her to Party City last weekend to pick out a theme for her party. She fell head over heels in love with the Hello Kitty supplies. Since I like to make homemade vegan birthday cakes, I looked for a Hello Kitty shaped cake pan at the party store. They didn't have one. We drove to the craft store. They didn't have one either. I decided to just buy the pan online. But this plan was foiled when I discovered that the cheapest price I could find it for was $17.99 (and I'd have to pay shipping too). SCREW THAT! I am not paying $20 for a cake pan that I am going to use once.

I started searching around online, and I stumbled across this website. They made it look so easy. After reading a few descriptions on how to make a Hello Kitty cake, I decided that I could totally do this by myself. Shit, it is just an oval shaped head, with two triangle shaped ears. Easy peasy!

This is a picture of the cake I wanted to make...

This is a picture of my lame-ass attempt...

Stop laughing internet!

At least you can tell it's a kitty. Mine would have looked like a rat on crack.

Ok, so actually it's not that bad. Just do the eyes long-wise and use black licorice for whiskers- oh wait is licorice vegan?

I'm really trying not to laugh....but you are so funny.

You should do the Wilton icing...you just need to buy the tips and some bags....although I'm not sure how you make your icing come to think of it.....sooooo....nevermind. ;)

Porgie is going to like anything you do for her..... :)

LOL - I don't know if I laughed harder at your post or the comments. I'm not sure I could pull off that cake either... Not 100% but thinking its Abby Cadabby for us at Kalila's next...

I could make the cake and then you can really laugh. I think that was a really good attempt. You are to hard on yourself.

Okay - I'll admit - it's not quite the same... BUT I think yours looks yummier. I think the more homemade somthing looks - the better it must taste!

Now I want some cake.

Haha!! That is just....well it's darn funny, that's what it is! Sorry! Hahaha!

I think if you got an icing kit with tips it would actually look really good (looks like they just used a star tip and you just make little dots all over the cake - really simple). But I guess that would depend on what kind of icing you make if it's homemade because of being vegan free?

It's Hello Kitty's third world cousin. Twice removed.

Actually, it's quite good. I'll bet your daughter loved it. I made a hamburger cake for my daughters birthday a few weeks ago and she didn't care that it wasn't like the one in the magazine.

Your cake is made with Looovve.
But, yes; a star-tip would have been good.

hilarious!! i don't really think it looks that bad, it is just when you have the other cake to compare it too!! When I made bradley's tractor cake, I used mostly the start tip...regular frosting is tough!

The good news is that you tried, you made the cake she wanted, and I'm sure she loved it.

As long as you don't open up your own cake decorating school or bakery, I think you're okay.

And I ditto Alicia W: my attempt would have looked so much worse!
I could envision perfection---but getting my hands to create the vision---well, I just blame my arms for not sending the proper messages....
blame your arms.

Alicia is hilarious. I agree. Mine wouldn't have even resembled a kitty!

I say, good job! You get points for baking it yourself no matter what :)

I'm sure it's way harder than it looks. So I only chuckled, promise!
