We invited our neighbors to come over this afternoon. In anticipation of their arrival, I cleaned the house. I picked up all of the toys, and then I decided to vacuum (gasp!). I pulled the vacuum cleaner out of the closet and plugged it in. I started vacuuming, but it wasn't picking anything up. DAMN IT!
I turned it off and flipped it over. This is what I saw...
It turns out that my hair was wrapped around and around the agitator (side note: I asked my husband what the spinny thing was called, and he said it was an agitator. I thought he was full of shit, so I looked it up on google. Turns out it really is called an agitator. See image below for proof. My blog is soooo educational!)
In order to get the hair off of the agitator, I had to cut it with a pair of scissors. Holy smokes - look at all the hair I got off...This is a direct result of postpartum hair loss. So anyone who is pregnant right now, this is what you have to look forward to.

I find myself pulling that much hair out of the shower drain every week. YUCK.
So glad for this new pregnancy on SO MANY LEVELS.
Gotta love what children do to our bodies.. and vaccuums!
Wow, I love your hair color! :)
Yeah, my husband keeps saying there's been a sighting of Sasquatch in our bathroom (regarding the drain).
honey you are right. so very educational :)
sorry bout the hair. it really is crazy that we have any hair left on our heads isn't it??
Been there many times. The best was when I was like days from delivery, and sitting on the floor crying at 6 AM, trying to get the damn vacuum clean as part of my nesting.
Same thing happened to me! I so never vaccum and then I pulled that sucker out and I had to cut hair off the agitator thingy, too. Gross, huh?
Hey, at least your house is clean now, right?! :D
And you are so educational, because I didn't know that's what it was called, either!
Now Christy...you know you shouldn't scare the pregnant ladies like that!
HAHAHAHA....I'm totally laughing WITH you, not AT you! I've been there and done that. Damn, I thought all this time it was my cats killing my vacuum...but it was ME!!! Oh yes, when I was pregnant my hair was all lucious and full....then I had him....then my hair fell out!!!
Hey...give me my vacuum back. And thanks for cleaning the spinny thingy for me.
Six months post-partum and still losing hair.
omg i thought i was looking at my sweeper for a minute there. I get that butits dog hair and string from my daughters room, i do her room last cause if anything will screw up the sweeper it will be in there.
Oh yes indeed! My drains were clogged on a daily basis for almost 3 months straight with each child. We should've bought stock in Drain-o.
Your hair fell out? Or you cut it when the baby came to be easier? THAT IS A LOT OF HAIR!
Alot of hair and proof that you do hoover. Alot!! hahaha!
I never did know what that spinnie bit was called:)
i HATE hair anywhere but on heads where it belongs!!! summertime is the worst as i think we all shed around her during the summer:S
between the drains and the agitater, we could be fair share givers to locks of love!!!
love,
dani
If you want to stop your hair from falling out postpartum you need to get pregnant again by the time your baby is 4 months old. Unfortunately I'm thinking that the hair loss is going to come back soon with a vengeance. I'm really scared.
My vacuum cleaner used to do this, but with (semi)regular cleaning, it lasted almost 13 years before my hair finally killed it. Yay Hoover!
Oh - and my hair begins falling out when I'm pregnant, to the point that I begin to think I will be a bald woman when giving birth...
oh god, LOL so hard!
You are right ~ that is very educational!! I had no idea what it was called ha ha !!!
Things are always getting stuck in that part of my hoover too ~ last time it was one of Laurens Bratz dolls and I had to cut the hair off (it is now a punk tee hee!!)
love and hugs XXXXX

Wow-that is a ton of hair. I am sure if I could pull the hair out of my drain in the bathroom-I would find that much too.
WOW!!
I didn't know that much hair could collect on the "agitator"!!!
Dude. I have to cut the hair off my vacuum at least once every three months, postpartum hair loss or not. But I have very long hair, and a lot of it.
I prefer the term "spinny thing" to agitator. However, "agitator" seems like a good name for Miss E.
Ewww....and I totally understand.
during postpartum hair loss i have to do this shit weekly
Wow! I thought I shed a lot. I have MASSIVE hair, even when not pregnant. I should check mine....or not. That sounds suspiciously like work.
I seemed to get lucky this time... only hair I've lost is what Kalila pulls out. Now that I've said that it'll happen though lol.
I thought the agitator was in the washing machine ;-) Very odd name for a vacuum part... but thanks for sharing, I'll now have something to call it if ours gets broken other than nini (thing) - Jas tends to get annoyed when I call everything nini lol.
Hmmm. maybe that's whats wrong with mine....Will just turned 2 on Sunday, when does the postpartum hair loss stop??
This has to be what is wrong with my vaccuum!!
Because I just cleaned out the drain in the tub and that is what I found. I didn't htink to look under the vaccuum!
My daughter has hair past her butt. My vacuum gets the same way!
lol ew ew ew. Why must we grow the equivilent of a lion's mane during pregnancy then shed it all until we have a receeding hairline? DAMN YOU MOTHER NATURE!
I have the same problem and I didn't even have a baby, LOL.. I shed so much my boyfriends hates when I vacumm cause all of my hair gets caught too.... I feel your pain, LOL..
It looks like you vacuumed a wig. Good Lord!
hahahaha - I should have taken a picture of the hair mass we had to pull out of the shower drain after Sophia was born. It was NASTY! Too bad we don't have scratch 'n sniff internet, cause I would want my viewers to get the full effect. :P
Good grief! That's insane!!
haha oh my god that is scary. I should check my vaccum maybe thats why it doesnt work. I shed like a motherfu**er...i know I cant even type swear. I am so lame.
