Do they make ear plugs for babies?

Remember when I bragged about the fact that Izzy liked to sit in his swing and bouncy seat? I may have been a little hasty in making those statements. Izzy HATES his swing with a passion. He DESPISES his bouncy seat. Fortunately, he tolerates his activity mat for 5 or 10 minutes. My sweet little boy has kind of turned into a little monster. He has been so damn fussy lately.

I realize that his fussy attitude is probably due to his lack of sleep (please see yesterday's post), but I really don't know how to improve the situation. When Izzy looks tired, I usually nurse him to sleep in the living room. Although he will typically fall asleep, the trick is getting him to stay asleep. I typically hold him for 15 to 20 minutes until he is in a deep sleep. Then I transfer him to his car seat and carry him to his room. Unfortunately, Porgie usually ends up waking him up before he falls into a deep sleep.

I have tried nursing him to sleep in his room, but Porgie follows me around making tons of racket. She absolutely LOVES to open and shut the changing table drawers, which startles Izzy awake EVERY DAMN TIME. Although I could shut the bedroom door, Porgie would just cry and scream until I opened it again. And I really don't want to make Porgie scream and cry.

Izzy loves sleeping in the car, but Porgie hasn't slept in the car since she was 6 months old. If Izzy happens to fall asleep in the car, I can't drive around until he wakes up because, once again, Porgie will scream and cry.

Have you noticed a theme here? I seem to only be able to please one child at a time. I totally suck ass at this whole parenting thing. Of course I am kidding, but it does kind of feel that way some times.

Although kisses are sweet, sleep is definitely better.

Okay, so my last comment on your last post was really meant for his one. Blame it on lack of sleep (ha).

Anyway, as I was going to say there, but realized I'd commented on the wrong post...
It will get better with Izzy. Porgie, I'm sorry to say, will continue to be a total pain in the ass for years to come. And just when she's out of it, Izzy will take over that stage. Newborns suck, but Pre-Schoolers suck worse. Doesn't that make you feel better?
There, now I've commented about both posts on both posts. It takes talent and insanity.

Oh, and to totally confirm my insanity, that should read "this" one, not "his" one.

I am no expert, but when I need E to sleep I just feed her about 3 cans of beer. It seems to put her right out. I think this is a healthy way to go. Of course I am just KIDDING!!!! Although.......

I wish had the answers, but at this rate, you will figure them out before me! I still have yet to figure out how to get these 2 to sleep at the same time. At this point, I wish my 2 year old would just outgrow his damned nap already, that would make life easier.

The only thing that works for me is driving in the car, they go to sleep at the same time. Obviously, that won't work for you. Not sure why I am commenting other than to use your space to bitch a little bit myself. ha!

Ok, I'm going to suggest something you probably won't want to do, but maybe you could try it.

Close the door while you nurse Izzy, let Porgie scream and cry about it. If you can gate her off before the door that's good because she'll probably bang on it. Or, ideally, put her in her room while you try and get him down for a nap so she has some toys to play with and doesn't feel like she's wandering loose in the house by herself.

I know this might seem mean or cruel but you aren't being mean or cruel and (hopefully) after a few times of doing this, she'll understand the routine and play in her room quietly while you nurse and put the baby down.

Before you do the routine, explain to her what you are both going to do, "Porgie, mommy is going to go feed the baby and you are going to play in your room". Tell her this several times before you actually do it. Make it sound like fun.

I don't know. You just might have to try it. And you'll have to try it many times before she stops crying because you know she will at first.

Also, if she is making so much noise that it keeps Izzy awake, try running a fan in his room as some white noise.

Oh man do you ever have a case of the opposites going on!?!

why dont you just put him in a bassinet or on the couch when he falls asleep so you dont have to transfer him and then he will be near you and getting used to noise

Oh gosh.....

I am sure you have tried EVERYTHING; so I am hestitant to even suggest a solution. But maybe could you set Porgie up in a room far away from you (safe of course) with a movie, snacks and a drink. Get a white noise maker for where Izzy is, so he doesn't wake up if she does make noise.

This is the exact problem I have been having when I watch my friend's son. I still haven't figured it out. Ella has a sixth sense of when he falls asleep and as soon as his sleepy eyes close she starts screaming, I kid you not.

So frustrating.

ok.. i don't have two but here is what works for me... take it as you wish :)

First I went and bought one of those handy dandy hand held vidoe monitor! which I have to say is the best thing EVER! Then I nursed Kya laying down on my bed, when she would fall asleep I would just get up and leave the room. This way she never had to be moved or transferred to another area to sleep. The video monitor let me know if she fussed or moved, but really she didn't move AT ALL! At first I would put pillows around her as a precaution (not near her of course) Then when she was older I bought one of the king size bed gaurd rails.. Then when she got even older I just put our mattress on the floor so she can get up on her own now, since she is walking and can get up and down as she wishes. The not having to move her around is key, and I would shut the door as soon as I left. The hand held monitor rocks because I was never worried about her waking up and rolling over because I was watching her..

well that is what I did.. good luck :)

Sorry, I haven't gotten on in a few days & just catching up. Sounds rough... I'm having trouble getting mine to sleep - once she's there life is good, but it's getting to that point!

I had to laugh at the beer statement... although... My mil told me that she used to have a drink at night (like a small glass of wine) when she really needed some sleep & then breastfeed my husband. The little bit of alcohol does put them to sleep... isn't as much as 3 beers lol, but seemed to work. I'll admit I tried it too a couple times, I don't know if it did or not really... didn't seem like she slept any sooner the first time. Last weekend it happed by accident - I gave her a bottle because we went out & I had a beer... but she fussed so much after we got home that I put her on & she did sleep well that time. Maybe she just didn't like wine ;-) Note: I usually stick to drinking after she's out for the night if I'm going too lol. (is like once a month or so; I never have really drank alot)

I need to go check on my husband now; is sick :-( So I'm off!
