Local cuisine

In the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area, chili parlors are all the rage. In these establishments, Cincinnati style chili is served in a variety of ways. First, they have 3-ways, which is chili served over spaghetti and topped with cheese and onions. They also have coneys, which is a hot dog (on a bun) topped with mustard, chili, onions, and cheese. There are other variations too; chili cheese fries, chili cheese sandwiches, alligators, etc. There were 4 different chili parlors in my hometown. We ate at these establishments often, and I have a special place in my heart for Cincinnati style chili.

New Jersey does not have chili parlors. However, it does have lots of diners. I love our city's diner - they have a veggie burger on the menu, and it tastes heavenly. As you drive through NJ, you will see diners on nearly every corner. Most of these places have a large menus. You can order anything from cheese steaks, to liver & onions, to Gyros. Although I didn't appreciate them at first, I now love eating at all the little diners around NJ. And whenever family comes to visit, I always take them out to eat at a diner.

Tell me about your area? Any unique foods or dinning experiences?

For some reason, we have a lot of roast beef places. And a lot of ice cream parlors. All of the roast beef places serve fried seafood, a big part of New England cuisine. And naturally, we have a lot of seafood places, especially in the little towns on the water. Fried clams and lobster rolls are ambrosia.

Oh, and you can't drive more than 1 mile on city/town streets and not pass a Dunkin' Donuts. It's like a law or something. I have seen them across the street from one another. It's a wonderful thing :)

But, I wish we had both diners (we have a handful, but not like NJ) and Cincinnati style chili - that stuff on pasta is delicious!

Well... I'm from West TX originally and there its Mexican food. South/Central TX now & there is still "Mexican" food but its not the same at all (blech). Is very hard to find any that's good here lol. We have just about everything here though. Our favourite places.. well, one is a Sushi bar (owners from Japan, little place great prices and the best sushi), a Middle Eastern restaurant (used to be owned by a guy who was half Lebanese half Greek, not sure about the new owner but the food is even better now lol), a soul food restaurant... Of course we rarely eat out unless we're w/ my FIL and its usually either to Subway, China Sea or Alamo (fake Mexican food that despite still being diff/odd isn't as bad as the rest here.. There's another fake chain called Chacho's that's the same unless you make the mistake of getting burritos).

When I was in college, there was a place there (it's still there, but I moved unfortunately)called Cafe Rue Orleans. Two sisters from NO owned this fantastic restaurant that served THE BEST cajun food. YUM.
