As some of you might have noticed, Izzy is going to be a year old next month. How the hell did that happen? Seriously? It literally feels like I JUST had him. I swear, I JUST brought him home from the hospital last Sunday. How is he a year old already? I just don't understand. At first, I wasn't going to do the whole birthday party thing. It just seems like a lot of work, and I am lazy. But John convinced me to throw him a little party - just a few people, some balloons, and a homemade cake. Nothing fancy.
Speaking of parties, I took the kids to a birthday party last weekend. It was held at Gymboree. Although the party was very interactive and extremely fun, I am shocked that other people invest so much money into birthday parties. I don't know how much the party cost, but I can guarantee you that the parents spent at least $500. They bought dinner for all of the guests - and there were A LOT of guests. And the goody bags were AWESOME. Obviously, I am a cheap bastard.
In other party news, I am going to throw Porgie a "Potty Party" after we get back from Kentucky. With cake and ice cream and the whole nine yards. It should be lots of fun. And then, I am going to actually potty train my child. I feel like everyone in the blogsphere has already started potty training, but we are just not ready yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will be ready in January.
And I'll leave you with this fun pictures of the kiddos enjoying their laptops...

Boopie is 2 years, 3 months and we haven't started potty training yet :) She isn't quite ready, but she's starting to show interest... she'll be ready soon, and we don't want to push it before she is ready - it'll just mean a failure and make it more difficult later. Good for you for waiting and not giving into the pressure! (do you know that there are actually families who try to potty train at 9 months?!?!)
Thank goodness you posted. I kept checking and was getting creeped out by the smiley face pancake or whatever it was.
Good luck with the party and potty training! Z wasn't potty trained until he was almost FOUR. Yes, FOUR. So you're doing just fine. :)
LOVE LOVE the "internet porn" photo, lol.
Am also cheap when it comes to goody bags. Two dollar store items in each ... the bags are purchased two for a dollar at Michael's. I have a hard enough time keeping my kid in diapers ... you aren't getting a $5 ANYTHING in a goodie bag, kid.
whoo hoo for party time :)
i can't believe little izzy is going to be one!! but then again i have a hard time believing i now have a one year old.
Are your children twins? They're the same size!
Hahahaha.
Parties are fun.
I wrote this seriously awesome witty comment and then blogger was down and it is lost forever. I am trying again. The problem is that I completely forgot what i wrote.
It had something to do with crazy birthday parties and how over the top they are for babies who dont even know what is going on. Keep it simple stupid is my motto. Love the idea of a potty party.
Cute picture!!!
Potty Party, eh? Maybe we should give that a try. Mini will be 3 in Feb. and we haven't even started. She is having some issues with holding in her #2's. As far as the #1's, she only will tell us right after she goes! Can't believe your little one is going to be one!
Here's a tip on potty training ~ don't stress yourself over it!
Porgie will do it when she is ready to do it, and not before!!
Good Luck :)
Wow, is that Izzy almost 1 already?!
Yeah, I couldn't spend that much for a party if I wanted too...but I don't want to either.
That pic is cute....that's how I blog...in my underwear! j/k
such a cute pic of the kids... looks like you're starting them early - they'll be blogging in no time, LOL....
A year already, I can't believe it either! I also have been shocked recently by the birthday parties because with both boys in school we have been invited to quite a few parties lately and when I checked into some of the prices at those places I was shocked! I would never spend that much on a party!
I'm the same way about parties for little ones - so far we've had a joint one for my older two with a few friends. We only had a family dinner when the baby turned one. Can't get into it!
As for potty training (whispers) my three year old boy is still in diapers full time.
i am like you, i wasn't going to throw a party for bradley this year. it just seemed like too much work and money especially around christmas. well, the entire family made me feel guilty, so we are going to have a party. now i am getting into it, but it is still a lot of work! the potty party sounds like fun! you will have to tell us about it!
I am so with you on the party thing! Growing up we had a small party with aunts, uncles and grandparents. I have a few friends who were upset they weren't invited. I just feel like it is something special to be shared with family or close friends of your choosing. Know what I mean?
I get a weepy mess when I think about my son's first birthday. 2 months from tomorrow actually.
I would never spend $500 on a kids party. I'd let Gramma pay that much though ;)
I think it lost my comment... :-(
I did, so trying again lol.
I know exactly how you feel on the bday thing. I still feel like it was just yesterday Kalila was born. Went by way too fast. I can't imagine spending so much on a party either... we kept it simple & it was still stressful lol.
I LOVE the potty party idea. So cute!!! We intro'd the idea, I think you know that already, awhile back... we knew it was early & wouldn't stick lol. But when she wants to try we let her... We're discussing when to start for real. It's still really early but she's showing more signs. A few days ago she let me know she dirtied or wet her diaper three times in a row. I was so proud... and surprised lol. I still feel like it's too early (part of me is not ready either) but we'll see... if she keeps that up we may start, if not... I'm fine w/ diapers for awhile longer lol.
izzy's first year has flown by; hasn't it!!! parties are expensive, christy!!! katherine has never really wanted one to have one... she hates being the center of attention. however, her weekends away with friends for her birthdays have ended up costing more than a freakin' party would:/
the potty party sounds adorable; good luck on the training, ha!!!
love,
dani
wow! a year. i am not into spending big $$$ on parties either...I am cheap and proud of being cheap. That pic is awesome. E thinks our rug is the potty and pees on it a lot. goss but true. I let her party in her birthday suit more than I should. hee hee
Best birthday party idea I ever had: I picked a day that we would take cupcakes to the park and then let all of our neighborhood friends know that morning by e-mailing/calling/seeing them outside. Just told everyone to meet us at the park at 4 p.m. to have cupcakes and play in honor of the twins' second birthday. The major pros of this were 1.) I didn't have to clean, 2.) I didn't have to worry about making everyone look nice (including myself), 3.) I didn't have to worry about drinks & snacks aside from cupcakes, juiceboxes, sodas and some beer wine (in a cooler), 4.) I didn't have to worry about receiving a lot of new toys to junk up our house even more when the twins barely understand the concept of presents (there will be more than enough time for that later) and 5.) I didn't have to write thank you notes!
I can't believe my baby is almost a year either. Ahh! It goes so FAST. I won't be having a huge party though- just a small family get-together.
I don't think that a huge party for a year old is necessary because it won't be remembered by the little one anyway. Wow a year...to me, time has been flying. Weeks pass and I am completely blown away. I can only imagine this will the be the same when I have the baby.
Oh and I am cheap too. I am not going to go in debt over a party. And it seems like there are some mom's out there that totally over do it just for the attention. It's all crazy!
500 bucks? oh dear! Love the pics as always!
Ya know, about 2 weeks ago Ava was VERY interested in potty training. As in she could wear the same pull up or big girl panties ALL.DAY.LONG. Right now??? She has decided that she's just too good for that. So I'm not pushing it. Although I got really giddy and excited there for a bit at the thought of getting her out of diapers. Maybe we'll get it done by the time she starts Kindergarten.
