I jinxed myself

See this butterfly nightlight... This little butterfly was supposed to save my sanity, restore peace and harmony in my household, and be a trusted companion for my wayward toddler.

After writing this post last week, I decided that perhaps Porgie's opposition to bedtime was stemming from a fear of the dark. So, I hunted around in my bedroom until I found the lovely butterfly nightlight pictured above. I plugged it in, and Porgie was captivated. I was certain that I had struck gold.

When we put Porgie to bed that night, she didn't cry or puke. It was a miracle. For the next 5 or 6 nights, Porgie went to bed without a fuss. But then I did something very foolish. I bragged. Yes, I bragged to Eva that I had fixed our bedtime problems. I think I even told her that I was a genius. Tsk tsk.

Porgie SCREAMED during bedtime last night. Porige PUKED during bedtime last night. I am not a genius. I am a jackass.

if those gay links don't work go to target.com and search string lights and then narrow to kids!

ah, the classic I-Say-It-Therefore-It-Must-Not-Be-True-Anymore parenting gambit. I'm so sorry, honey.

*tentative voice* have you thought about bringing her to a child therapist?

We were in Clermont, NJ the week before last. There is a little bunch of shops on rte.9 called Woodland village. There is a "toy cottage". They had the cutest turtles that lit up & threw patterns on the ceiling. One was constellations, another had outlines of turtles and I forget what the 3rd one did. Clermont's not too far a drive is it?

Maggie's been having a hard time sleeping too. Not getting to sleep so much, but she's been waking in the middle of the night & coming to sleep in MY bed! Gah!

I hope she settles for you.

You could get one of those things that lights things up on the ceiling?
Good luck, though, cause I know you're probably exhausted!!

Oh no! It was a good run while it lasted!!!

Ok, so maybe she needs a new light every week. Try the one now that puts stars on your ceiling....captivate her!!!

I hate it when that happens, yet I never learn my lesson! How do they know? I hope it gets better for you.

I have one word for you: hubris. Never do that again.

P.S. I do it all the time with potty training, "Oh Oliver is completely potty trained now. Oh wait - no he's not, he just had an accident..."

Oh I'm sorry... it happens everytime I brag too. You'd think we'd learn lol. I hope it was a one night thing & she goes back to sleeping well.

that sucks. it always seems to happen to me too!
have you tried a glo-worm? for some reason, coconut has developed this fondness for a glo-worm her sister has. at night, i put it on the light only setting and she can squeeze it and light up her room.
(now that i've mentioned that...she won't play with it tonight and will probably chuck it at me as i walk out the door, screaming, "what the hell did you hand me that piece of crap glowing toy for? it scares me and i'm not sleeping tonight!") so ignore my advice. please.
