Feeding our addictions

I have been trying to kick my coke addiction for months, but every time I make progress, I fall right back off the wagon. It is frustrating, because I am well aware of all the empty calories I consume on a daily basis. But the lure of that fizzy, sugary drink is overwhelming.

A few weeks ago, I decided that I was no longer going to purchase myself Coca Cola. But I couldn't bare the thought of going cold turkey, so I made some excepts to the rule. I decided that I could accept a soda if someone offered me one, and I could also purchased a single serving of soda (like a 20 oz). However, I was no longer going to keep it stocked in my refrigerator. When I told John about my plan, he decided to give up Limeade too.

But we are clever little devils, and we figured out a way around our new rules. We simply started buying limeade and soda for one another. I would come home with a jug of Simply Limeade for John. He would come home with a case of Coca Cola Classic for me. So basically, we are back to square one.

haha. Giving up Soda was hard- very hard- but once I kicked the habit I was happy. Don't give up.

HA! I had to comment because I did the same thing last week. I'm trying to boycott this coffee shop (long story) that has amazing coffee but I hate the owners. So to get around it, I had someone else buy me a coffee there, so I wasn't technically supporting them with my money... I'm totally kidding myself, aren't I?

I seriously had to laugh over this. It cracks me up that the two of you are helping each other get what you are supposed to be giving up!

Might I suggest Coke Zero, tastes like the real thing but no calories. Or spend your money on other stuff so you have none to buy coke with. Normally by the time I pay bills and buy dinner and gas I'm out of money so have to drink water lol

I love soda. LOVE soda. I just made the switch to diet to cut out 400 to 500 calories per day, but diet sucks. Diet Vanilla Cherry Dr. Pepper tastes almost as good as the regular, but oh, how I miss Coke. I envy hubby when he sits there sipping on his Coke and I drink diet crap. Oh well, Im trying to make a change....

I can't stand either of those drinks (they hurt my teeth) but I have had a similar series of events with chocolate and baked goods. Best of luck!

I try to give up my Mellow Yellow at least once every 2 weeks. Never works. I have stopped buying it for the house but do usually by a 20 oz everyday to take to work. Damn pop. But be glad you don't drink diet. It is the devil. Have you read skinny bitch? What they said about dt pop about gave me a heart attack... as I sit here and drink one of Greg's dt pepsi's cuz I have no pop in the house. ridiculous. seriously.

Too funny! You are an evil pair. Keep working hard at it.

Tee-hee! You are too funny. I'd switch to coke zero, or change the rules and plan a vacation or some other monatary goal, then everytime you go to buy a coke, put it back down and put that money in a jar. It adds up fast.

Ohh..I can SO relate! Try drinking flavored carbonated water. 0 calories, 0 sugar, 0 calories and still fizzy! It takes a little getting used to but now if I need something fizzy, that's what I go for!

Love your blog!
