Let's talk about poop

Izzy had another appointment with the GI doctor this week. It appears that my little guy's digestive tract is finally maturing. His stool sample was perfect. I feel so relieved knowing that his little tummy feels better.

The bad part is that we have achieved this amazing feat by eliminating dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, and citrus fruits from my diet. According to the doctor, most babies outgrow food sensitives by 9 months of age. Now that Izzy is 8 months old, the doctor would like for me to start adding these foods back to my diet. I am following the doctor's orders and adding citrus fruits back to my diet first. I plan on buying some limeade this weekend. Mmmm...limeade.If all goes well, I will add nuts in two weeks, soy in four weeks, eggs in six weeks, and dairy in eight weeks. In two short months, I could possibly be eating like a normal person again. This is great, except for the fact that I am probably going to gain 20 pounds in the process. Do you know how bad I want ice cream? And cheese? I would give my left eye for a calzone and a bowl of Chunky Monkey.

Oh my goodness! Poor you. I don't know if I could live without dairy for that long...although I guess I could do it for my little guy but man that is a hard diet to follow.

I am so happy that you can start to add stuff back. I am happy for a good poop review from the doc as well. Let me also say that you have been so committed and you should be so proud of yourself.

I hear you. I had to cut out foods for a different reason...my acid reflux is out of control. I had to cut out citrus, tomatoes, chocolate, spicy foods, soda.....

I still cheat sometimes though...I mean, come on..chocolate? But I think the tomatoes is the hardest!

I hope you get all those yummies back soon....

I know how you feel! I am dieing for some ice cream!! My daughter is soooo sensitive to what I eat, my diet is so boring! But I think it's worth it to protect her little tummy. At least there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

You are a good mommy. I would have DIED if I had to give up cheese. Or citrus. Or nuts. Wow.

Oh, the things we do for our children :-)

Good thing you blogged about this - you can totally use it as ammunition when he's 16 and wants to know why you're trying to control his life. Simple answer: He controlled yours!

Two of my boys had reflux, and while it wasn't nearly as serious as what it sounds like your guy has dealt with, I can sympathize with cutting out food. I love me some dairy. My children should take it as a huge testament of my love for them that I stopped eating it for their sake.

Oh I am so sorry... but good news about the poo!

I just wrote a nhhm post on the whole food allergy/irritation subject... is such a relief to see solid/normal poos lol. I never would have thought so though.

I can't imagine how rought that's had to be on you... good job for keeping it up despite all that. I hope it continues to get better.

Enjoy that limeade though!!! Sounds yummy.. i may need to make me some now lol.

Great news. I didn't nurse for long - but I remember feeling very bitter about not being able to have diet coke when I was operating on 2 hours of sleep each night...

We went through this with my two year old-he was senstive to corn and peanuts, and a few other things but those were the worst. I was still nursing, so had to cut out all of those products from MY diet as well as his-and do you know that EVERYTHING has corn syrup in it? Ketchup. Bread. Tortillas. Sour cream. The list is huge. I feel for you! But he is now two, we nursed for just shy of 16 months and he is finally eating a noraml diet. good luck!
