My first "I am so embarassed she is my child" temper tantrum

Sunday started out very peacefully. We laughed, we played, and we napped. In the afternoon, we decided to take the kids to the local children's museum. Porgie was in heaven. She played with every exhibit, ran around with the big kids, and admired the turtle display.

After we finished exploring the museum, we decided to run to Target to pick up a few things. As we pulled into the parking lot, Porgie started crying to go home. She was blubbering on about night-nights (her blankets). We told her that we had to pick up a few things, and then we would go home.

But instead of calming down, she started crying even harder. I unstrapped her from the car seat, and carried her to the sidewalk. Of course, she refused to walk. So, I picked her up and plunked her into a cart. This created even more screams of horror. People were starting to stare. And I was starting to get angry. Porgie was a messy ball of snot and tears. Keep in mind that we hadn't even made it into Target yet. We were still standing on the sidewalk in front of the main entrance.

John, trying to defuse the situation, picked Porgie up to carry her. But she was too far gone by that point. She started coughing and gagging and she PUKED. The kid cried so hard that she made herself vomit. I was horrified. I picked her up, tossed her ass in the car seat, and drove home.

So here we sit tonight, with no diapers, shampoo, or soap.

I've been there. At a restaurant no less.

At least she doesn't have a million piercings and tattoos. That's waaaay more embarrassing. :)

oh no honey :(

seriously a missed trip to target - a true disaster in my book.

and i sooo know it's going to be me one of these days...

sorry friend. here's hoping for a trip to target tomorrow. minus the puke.

What BIG emotions! Big girl! Poor things.

I'm right there with ya. I can't go grocery shopping alone with Ellie. She insists on being carried ALL THE TIME. I can't really do that while pushing a cart and picking groceries off the shelves. And if I don't pick her up we have moments just like the one you had. Sucks sometimes, huh?

Oh I feel your pain!! Ava has done that before and the most embarrasing part for me was when she reached back and slapped me across the face...while kicking me in the stomach.

And like Jenn said, most people there probably had kids too and definately could feel your pain.

Tantrums AND puke. That is a pretty big "first." My oldest embarasses me in public all the time (since people assume that he is older and expect more from him than obnoxious 3 year old behavior). I guess we can only hope that most of them have been there-done that. I mean you'd think at Target...

Oh - and like Melissa - my daughter puked all over herself AND me at a restaurant once. Our entrees hadn't even arrived yet. It was hell. Really smelly hell.

Oh, that sounds messy. I can't wait for those fun times. (note the sarcasm)

Wow. I feel for you.

Look at it this way...when she is a teenager and complaining that "Mooooom, you're EMBARASSING me!" you can let her read posts like this and reply with a simple "Paybacks."

Well, you survived it! Hopefully your second won't be happening any time soon!

Welcome to the club :) I've had one incident like that where we actually left the store without buying what we wanted because the boys were out of control!

Yes ~ I have been there too ~ my daughter did that a few times when she was younger!! It was usually triggered by me saying she couldn't do something!!
She soon came through that phase though ~
Sometimes there is just no reasoning with them!!
Sending you love and hugs XX

Hope you get those diapers soon!! X

My 6 year old had a meltdown at the 10 pin bowling ~ all because he lost. Of course, there was someone there who knew me!

ack! puke and all? I'm trembling with fear for when I'll be introduced to the world of temper tantrums. :(

Bless your heart! Bayley is only 4 months, so I'm not there yet, but I certainly feel for you. It happens, and other parents can relate. Those who don't have kids that glare at you need to get a life. There are obnoxious adults that show up too...and they should know better. TALKING REALLY LOUDLY TO THE PERSON NEXT TO THEM, dressing VERY inappropriately, etc. If I lived near you, I'd go to the store for you or I'd watch your behbehs so you could go alone. :)

I have been there many times. Ella did the whole throw up melt down tantrum thing for a year or so and then they sort of disappeared. (knock on wood) I am kind of relieved to know we are not the only ones, but I am very sorry it happened to you.

Oh, I can feel the frustration that this must have caused. And by frustration, I mean blistering red-hot bad-type feelings that make you wonder WHY oh WHY did you ever agree to be a Mommy?!?

We had a similar episode in an office supply store once. The sales guy who was talking to us at the time wouldn't get the hint that I didn't need to talk to him about printer ink AND try to control my screaming, red-faced, kicking, collapsing like wet spaghetti daughter, too.

Oh my!! Do you have pads for the diapers hee hee...? I am sure everyone has been there once or twice!
Have a glass of wine!

Oh that sucks!! Yet I see that in my near-ish future!! Sophia already has temper tantrums. Ahh the joys of little girls. Just be happy you have the chance to go to Target. I am so insanely jealous of America because you have Target.

Yeah, been there, done that.

I've left FULL carts of food at the grocery store when Maggie was about Porgie's age & I wouldn't let her eat a second banana.

The girl at the customer service desk was understanding though.

Oh that stinks!!! Sorry for that! But you did the right theing by packing it in - even if it meant no Shampoo...

I was just writing about how I know these days are coming for me eventually... I'm trying to savor my tantrum-free days as much as possible... Ahh!

Ahhh...I feel for you. We've probably all been there at one time or another. Z hasn't made himself vomit...YET! But he sure has thrown a couple hissies!!!

Hope you get to get your supplies soon!

Christy-nobody else could have told that story better. I know that feeling. The tantrum when they are so upset that nothing gets them back but puking-well Max has not done that yet..but I do know the puke cough. HUGS momma.

Gage did that same thing after he got in trouble in the yogurt section of Tom Thumb. he was popping open the yogurt, tasting 'em, and putting them back while I stood there with a visual of him out of my peripheral vision while choosing our yogurt. Yeah...(way to go, me, right??) Anyway, by the time we were at the check out, he puked on both of us, and then the cashier barked about how I was going to pay for the open yogurts. (duh--I brought them up to the cashier, right?)

It was the wooorst shopping trip ever, and in the unending moments of that tantrum, I swear I was surrounded by Stepford Wives with their perfect little Stepford children, and I wanted to pelt all those women who gave me disapproving looks with a paintball gun.

...but hey, I'm over it, right???

ha! Been there done that. Wait until you get to the point where you just yell out, "I am not hurting you and you are being ridiculous, I am your mother and if you want to throw a fit and gag yourself go right ahead, I need tampons!"..then you march into the store with said screaming child. She was so dumbfounded and I was 16 shades of red, but damn it, I wasn't giving in this time :)

I am so sorry... I agree w/ the others, every parent either has had it happen or will. Makes me glad I don't have to worry about the diapers though ;-) (although I'm sure there'll be something else essential that we'll end up missing out on due to tantrems at some point)

Sounds super familiar. Seth decides to puke when he doesn't want to finish his dinner. It is disgusting and he has done it at a restaurant. So gross.

Puking. Wow Porgie. Way to commit to the tantrum.

And hugs to the embarrassed momma.
