Conquering fears

Two year olds are crazy little creatures. They are loads of fun, but they are also a little neurotic. Currently, Porgie has lots of phobias. To name a few, she is terrified of vacuum cleaners, stuffed animals, sitting on the potty, and stepping on sand. Yes, my little girl is a creep.

Although I would love to talk about all of her irrational fears, today I am going to focus on her fear of stuffed animals. As a baby, Porgie disliked stuffed animals. She always tossed them aside for her colorful plastic toys. As she got older, Porgie grew to hate stuffed animals even more. In the past few months, it got to the point where she would cry if we even showed her a stuffed animal.

To illustrate this point, here are a few photos of the most horrifying stuffed animals we own...
On Monday, Rachel gave Izzy a teddy bear. And Porgie fell in love with it... She carries the teddy bear around the house, gives him hugs & kisses, and has even been spotted teaching him how to play the paino...
My baby girl has conquered one of her biggest fears. And I am so proud of her.

Too cute!

Is she tactile sensitive? Some kids are, about that age.

Yea Porgie! But I can see how she might be scared of that dog...:)

When my kids were about her age, my mom gave them a really large lion that ROARED whenever you touched it. That toy was not, shall we say, a huge hit.

Oh how cute. My little guy has a fear of this duck my daughter has. You pull a string and his feet move. He cries like I have never seen him cry before and of course BG just thinks it is too funny. It is now locked up in the cabinet.

I'm with Danielle - I think that first one is a little scary too...

My kids all have bizarre fears. My 3 year old refuses to watch Thomas the Tank Engine because when he was a toddler, some crash thing that happened in one of the stories and scared the bejeezus out of him.

They really are quirky little guys.

That dog looks mean and that first one looks creepy. I don't blame her for not liking them! I looove the bear and see why she likes it. My stepson used to cry over the vacuum cleaner, too.

You go, Porgie!

Boopie is afraid of the vacuum cleaner, too... makes it a little difficult to get things cleaned up when she's anywhere in the house! lol. We bought one of those Bissell Sweeper Vac things... the ones that aren't powered and just pick up the crumbs by rolling over them? Works pretty well (got it off Amazon, I believe) and helps clean up when she dumps the goldfish on the ground AGAIN without scaring the bejeezus out of her unnecessarily!

I can see why she might have been scared of the first 2 pics....ah, but there isn't anything a cute brown teddy bear can't fix.

Way to go Porgie!!!

Just wait, now she'll go the complete opposite way and will look like ET hiding in a room full of stuffed animals because she will want everyone she sees and won't give any up! :o)

Ellie hates stuffed animals that talk or giggle... she also hates sand, which sucks cause we just got home from a vacation with a beach and she wouldn't even touch it. I hope she conquers that fear by next summer! Glad she liked the teddy bear! Cute :)
