My vacuum cleaner needed a trim

We invited our neighbors to come over this afternoon. In anticipation of their arrival, I cleaned the house. I picked up all of the toys, and then I decided to vacuum (gasp!). I pulled the vacuum cleaner out of the closet and plugged it in. I started vacuuming, but it wasn't picking anything up. DAMN IT!

I turned it off and flipped it over. This is what I saw...
It turns out that my hair was wrapped around and around the agitator (side note: I asked my husband what the spinny thing was called, and he said it was an agitator. I thought he was full of shit, so I looked it up on google. Turns out it really is called an agitator. See image below for proof. My blog is soooo educational!)

In order to get the hair off of the agitator, I had to cut it with a pair of scissors. Holy smokes - look at all the hair I got off...This is a direct result of postpartum hair loss. So anyone who is pregnant right now, this is what you have to look forward to.

Yeah, my husband keeps saying there's been a sighting of Sasquatch in our bathroom (regarding the drain).

  5. Been there many times. The best was when I was like days from delivery, and sitting on the floor crying at 6 AM, trying to get the damn vacuum clean as part of my nesting.

  11. Oh yes indeed! My drains were clogged on a daily basis for almost 3 months straight with each child. We should've bought stock in Drain-o.

  15. If you want to stop your hair from falling out postpartum you need to get pregnant again by the time your baby is 4 months old. Unfortunately I'm thinking that the hair loss is going to come back soon with a vengeance. I'm really scared.

  16. My vacuum cleaner used to do this, but with (semi)regular cleaning, it lasted almost 13 years before my hair finally killed it. Yay Hoover!

Oh - and my hair begins falling out when I'm pregnant, to the point that I begin to think I will be a bald woman when giving birth...

  20. WOW!!

I didn't know that much hair could collect on the "agitator"!!!

  21. Dude. I have to cut the hair off my vacuum at least once every three months, postpartum hair loss or not. But I have very long hair, and a lot of it.

I prefer the term "spinny thing" to agitator. However, "agitator" seems like a good name for Miss E.

  24. Wow! I thought I shed a lot. I have MASSIVE hair, even when not pregnant. I should check mine....or not. That sounds suspiciously like work.

  25. I seemed to get lucky this time... only hair I've lost is what Kalila pulls out. Now that I've said that it'll happen though lol.

I thought the agitator was in the washing machine ;-) Very odd name for a vacuum part... but thanks for sharing, I'll now have something to call it if ours gets broken other than nini (thing) - Jas tends to get annoyed when I call everything nini lol.

  26. Hmmm. maybe that's whats wrong with mine....Will just turned 2 on Sunday, when does the postpartum hair loss stop??

  27. This has to be what is wrong with my vaccuum!!

Because I just cleaned out the drain in the tub and that is what I found. I didn't htink to look under the vaccuum!
